Great Expectations

I have wanted to be a English teacher since I was 12 years old. I do not know why I decided to be an English teacher, maybe my decision is realated with my mother. My mom is a physical education teacher. She had always talk to me about how much she care about kids, how much she would like to help them to learn different things and how much she would like them to be happy one day. If you ask me this is my passion as well, kids.

I can say that I am not a very patient person, I always have problems with my friends andfamily because of it. But with little children that is completely different. I change with them and I am the most patient person when is about them. That proves me I am very into this teaching thing.

I am not studing Englsih pedagogy just only because of the English itself. I decided to study English pedagogy because my dream is that one day I will be infront of my own classroom and I will be in charge of teaching them and care about them. I think that my expectations are really big, but this is because I really want this more than anything. I took this decision by myself and will finish it against everything and everyone.

I hope that I could change some things that I do not like right now about Chilean education. I know it may be difficult, but step by step is always possible. I see myself in five more years teaching at school with a big smile and being really happy because of it. I am happy with what I am doing and I will be more happy when I could teach my I have learned during this years.

Love

I think that most of the feelings are difficult to handle, but “Love” is the most difficult feeling to understand. One of the most important things in life, is to find the right person for you. The one who is going to be with you until death. The one who is going to raise your kids with you. The one who is going to be with you when you need to cry or when you are happy. Let me tell you one thing, there is not a prince charming and there is not a princess of your dreams, there is just one of us.I am not saying that were are not good enough, I am just saying we need to stop dreaming. We have to stop looking for the right person and let him or her to appear one day.

“Love” is something really strong that you feel for someone, it doesn’t matter if it is someone from your family or some girl or boy from some where else. This feelings is one of the most important and you can’t live without it. If you think that you can, let me tell you that you are really wrong. You will fall inlove one day and you will have the oportunity to feel one of the most beautiful things in this world.

During my entire life (well I am 20 years old is not my entire life) I have been looking for mister right. Surprise, I haven’t found him yet, but I am sure that I will some day. I am always trying to imagine how is he going to be, how is he going to treat me and how inlove I am going feel.

Chilean Culture

All the countries have their own culture that define them. An Chile, were I live have it too. If I have to define Chilean people I can say that we are really affective and workaholic, but we like and we need to have fun.

Going out is one of the most common hobbies here in Chile. Unlike Europe were they have parties until 10pm, in Chile most of the “carretes”, the Chilean word for going out, ends at dawn. When we want to have fun we have a lot of different things to do during the day and also during the entire night.

For an example we have “fantasilandia” it is a funfair were you can spend the entire day with your friends, eat a lot of junk food or just hang out.
For the night is really common to go to bars or to discoteque. Almost all discoteques open at 1:00am in the morning, so you really need to wait until that time if you want to dance. You can also dance in bars but is not really fun because not all of the people are dancing so you may feel embarrass. If discoteques and bars open so late is obvious that they end late too. If you ask me this is the best part of the “carrete”. You are really hungry and tired because you have been awake more than 20 hours. So after we leave the disco or the bar we always go to eat something and to talk about the night. The most common part for eating at 6:00am is Burger King or Mc Donalds. During this part of the night is when you laugh the most because we start tp talk and discuss all the things that had happend during the night.

After all of that you only want to get home and sleep until the next day.

Bullying

Bullying is a nowadays problem. Little children, teenagers and adults suffer because of this. What do we mean by bullying? In this problem there are two sides. The first one is the side of the victims and the other one is the side of the bullies. The bullies are the one who take advantage of their height, weight, physical appearance or their popularity and they make fun of other kids, teenagers or adults. The victims are the ones who are repeatedly attack in many ways for the bullies. The victims can suffer verbal attack, physical attack or even indirect attacks, like being ignore or something like that.

I think this is a very difficult problem to solve, because in most cases you can’t recognize who the bullies are. Also, I think the victims are not the only ones who suffer. The bullies suffer too. In most cases the ones who attacks or the ones who make fun of their classmates or friends have their own problems. They have problems with thei self esteem or perhaps they have problems at home. Who knows, but we have to learn how to help the victims of bullying and how to help the bullies as well.

I remember when I was a little girl. During those days I suffered a lot because of a small group of girls who dedicated all their day bothering to my classmates and me. Me and my friends talked to the teacher about what was happening during the brakes and in the classroom. Fortunately our teacher helps us to solve our problem. She made us talked with the class and explain to that girls group that what they were doing was not OK. Nowadays we are all good friends.

The individual's interest seems to be "more important" than society in today's world

The world has changed and we have changed too. About 20 years ago the most important thing in the entire world was the family. Our grandparents were worried about family dinners, family problems, family free time, etc. but now, all that has changed.

Nowadays we are worry about money, health, our own dreams, our own success, but what about the rest of the society?
In today’s society people is getting married really late and they are having children very late too. That is because they are giving more importance to individual interest than society interest. I am not saying that this is wrong. You have to fight for your dreams, for your life and for what you really care about. But the fact that you will care about your own things not necessarily mean that you can’t care about society problems or contemporary issues.

For example, today’s teenagers only care about having fun, go to parties or to earn money easily. The values of our grandparents are getting lost. Teenagers do not care about honesty, loyalty or solidarity, they just care about their own problems. A few years ago charity was something very important in our society. Nowadays we want to earn money just for buying cars, houses, toys, etc. We not even care about our studies. People are leaving studies a side because of money. When they finished school they start working almost inmediatly, so they do not go to the university.

If we want a better country we need to collaborate with it. We need to study at the university. That is the only way to improve poverty, hunger and all those type of things. The most important thing is to rescue our society values, they are the only thing that can help us to do things in a right way.

Why to Educate?

After the seminar, we left the room thinking about all this topics. I thought that the Education was a easy topic to talk about and it was not difficult to improve it. But after I heard all this specialists talking about how hard is to improve all this education problems, I realized that is not that easy, in fact is a completely difficult topic to talk about.

During the seminar Humberto Maturana said something really important. He ask the question, Why to Educate? If we think about this question we could realize that is the beginning of this discussion. I think the education is the base for everything. We start this process when we are very little. We start lerning whith our own families. They teach us how to eat, how to behave and what to do or not to do, but the most important thing that we learn from them are our values. Then, when we know all of this, we can’t stay there waiting for something. We must continue lerning, for example we need to learn how to express with other people, how to behave with my peers and how to communicate well. This things we should learn them at school. In school is the only moment where we interact with our peers and where we learn to respect to each other and to share with others.
During this process, is very important to have your parents near. They are the adults who have to guide you at home.

One of the most important problems in Education is inequity and if we don’t do something about it we would never have the education that we want to have. The Education is the base for all of the societies and that’s why we should care about it more.

The 60s

During this time many things were happening as the Hippies movement, Woman movements, Education changes, Vietnam war, American civil-rights movements, Space race between the U.S and the URSS and there were many murders too.

First of all, there were three remembered murders during the 60s. The assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King in 1968, the assassination of the US president John F. Kennedy and the assassination of presidencial candidate Robert F. Kennedy.
Because of the Vietnam War appeared many antiwar movements as the hippies, who believe in peace not in war and who were promoting love. Many people protest because of this war. They said that it was not necessary to fight with guns and weaponds because you always can solve thing just talking.

Civil rights were another issue. In the 60s black people suffered discrimination and racism. In some restaurants the entry was not allowed for them and they could enter to the university. With the appearance of Martin Luther King all this thing changes for good.

With the beginning of the 60s also began the Space race. A really strange race between the Soviet Union and the United States. This was a technology war between those countries. This competion starts when the Soviet Union decided to send a spaceflight to orbit the Earth. Because of this the US send another spaceflight to orbit the Earth. The Unitates States won the race when it placed the first human in the Moon: Neil Armstrong

Another important change was womans right. During this years they began to fight in favour of their civil rights. It was very difficult for them to be listen to by the men, but they finally success in their comittment and this was the first step for the new laws that appeared some time later.

Segregation, Discrimination and Racism

If we think about this three words, we automatically think about bad thing. Of course, because those words are related to murder, suffering and sorrow.
Now that I read more about Marthin Luther King and some other people who fought against the racism, segregation and discrimination, I can affirm that this kind of things happened in the past, are happening now in the present, and if we don’t do something about it quickly, this would be continue happening in the future.

It is not fair for someone to be judged because of his or her color skin or because of his or her financial situation. Well, this happened during the 60s. Black people or “Negro” were discriminated because of their color skin. During this time, people were thinking that black people were not as much as important as they were. White people made a mistake by leaving a side black people. Why? Because black people had demonstrated that they are as intelligent as we are, as pretty as we are and that they can also be good persons as we are.
The racism, has punished many countries. So much in Europe as in America Latina and North America have had some problems with racism. This is because in some schools and Universities have been some problems among the students because of the racism. Some of them had murder their classmates because of this type of prejudice.

Now a days this has continue happening. Believe it or not this is a big problem in the entire world. We need to fight together if we want this to stop. Because of this, a lot of people are suffering all over the world. This is not fair to them because they have the same rights as we have, so they deserved respect.
